Worlds of Experience: Lakes and rivers

Together with green hills and dense woodlands, it is the glittering lakes that set their stamp on this distinctive landscape. The wide reaches of the great lakes, Malchiner See and Kummerower See, and Inselsee lake near Güstrow are an open invitation to canoeists, yachtsmen and surfers.

You can also explore the countless small, hidden lakes, which are ideal for bathing. Then there are the many rivers well stocked with fish, such as the Warnow, Nebel, Tollense, Trebel and Peene. They link up the lakes and offer a host of water routes. The river Warnow, which flows down to Rostock, has its share of rapid and white waters so it is an ideal river for canoeists.

A houseboat tour is a particular joy for families. On the Federal waterway, amateur captains can navigate their way from Kummerower See lake to the Isle of Usedom at the Baltic.

Along all these routes there are sufficient resting places and moorings to allow travellers to break their journey as the mood takes them. These waters boast rich fish stocks: an angler’s paradise! For these who like fish, the cosy fish restaurants are to be highly recommended. They offer various culinary delights on their fish menus in addition to good homely cooking.
